Mystical Turkey April 4-12, 2020
,Travel with Gopi and Gaura Vani to Konya and Cappadocia, exploring poetry and spirituality.
Fall in love with
the agony of love
not the ecstasy
then the beloved
will fall in love
Gopi Kinnicutt, founder of Bhakti Yoga DC, and Gaura Vani, musician and storyteller, are dedicated spiritual seekers and travelers. These two friends have led many international pilgrimage trips, sometimes as a team, and both have long dreamed of bringing students to Turkey to dive into its rich poetry, history, religion and culture. This spring, their trip will happen at last, in fascinating Konya and Cappadocia.
Konya is where the great mystic poet Rumi is buried; an ancient city where Islamic Sufi mystics still express love for the Divine in practices that parallel the Bhakti tradition’s deep expression of love of God. Konya is also where Rumi met his teacher, Shams, and experienced a spiritual awakening.
We’ll visit the Mevlana Museum, or Green Mausoleum, with its striking green tower beckoning the visitor to enter Rumi’s tomb and encounter artwork and antiques that bring the past alive, including passages of Rumi’s timeless poetry. We’ll see the Aziziye Mosque, an intricate Ottoman landmark and house of worship, and the tempting bazaar spread out before it. We’ll attend a “whirling dervish” ceremony, witnessing the captivating sight and sound of this sacred Sufi dance practice that awakens one’s own inner dance with the divine. We’ll also visit the hills and valleys of the surrounding area, soaking up the scenery and culture. Hotel: Konya Dervish Hotel: http://www.dervishotel.com/
We then move on to Cappadocia, a World Heritage site known for its unusual rock formations, including troglodyte cave dwellings that have housed centuries of spiritual seekers. In this otherworldly landscape, we’ll hike, practice yoga, meditate and perhaps even participate in one of its famous hot air balloon rides (not included in trip package). Our five-star cave hotel accommodations will support us in resting and absorbing the benefits and lessons of our journey: Elysee Cave House Hotel - http://www.elyseegoreme.com/en/index.html
A trip with Gopi and Gaura Vani is more than a vacation. On this journey, you will not only encounter new sights, tastes and sounds, but also will discover new facets of your own heart and soul.

Turkish Airlines has a direct flight leaving Washington DC at 11 pm April 3rd, arriving April 4th at 4:30 pm. They have a return flight leaving Istanbul April 12th around 3 pm and arriving back into DC 7:30 pm. The timing for this flight is ideal. Again, you will be responsible for booking both the international flight and the short domestic flights from Istanbul to Konya and back from Cappadocia to Istanbul.
